The Missouri Academic Coaches Association (MACA) would like to announce that the annual Missouri State Junior Varsity Quiz Bowl Tournament will be held on the campus of Helias High School on Saturday, April 10, 2010. This is a new central location and Helias has graciously agreed to host the tournament. MACA hopes that this will allow many more schools to compete especially those from the eastern side of the state since travel times will no longer be so long or require an overnight trip.
Lexington High School will once again host the Minuteman Varsity Tournament, this year on March 20, 2010. The tournament will feature two divisions based on school size, with trophies presented to the top four teams in each division (champions also receive medals). All-tournament players in each division will earn medals. This tournament is a great opportunity to tune-up prior to district competition.
Questions will be provided by Questions Galore, the provider for Missouri's district, sectional, and state competitions.
The Missouri Quizbowl Alliance will host the third annual NAQT Missouri Qualifier on March 20, 2010 at the University of Missouri-Columbia. As MOQBA's flagship event, this tournament regularly features a diverse field of teams from throughout Missouri, recognizing the state's top teams for national tournament qualification and creating a championship atmosphere. Matt Chadbourne and Jeffrey Hill will serve as tournament directors of this official NAQT event, which will use untimed NAQT rules.
This will be a sixteen team tournament for freshmen and sophomores. Each team may have one junior with little or no varsity experience. Morning will consist of three matches and all teams will advance to the afternoon for three more championship or consolation bracket matches, so there will be lots of competition for younger players. We are still discussing the format but are considering a shortened format, similar but not exactly the same as NAQT. Our varsity players will write the questions.
