2016 Mexico Fall Novice Tournament

This tournament will consist of a minimum of eight games for all teams in a modified NAQT/national format:

  • Each game shall consist of two halves of ten tossups each, with each correct tossup followed by a three-part bonus.
  • Correct tossup answers are ten points each, with an additional five-point “power” awarded for a correct answer given before a pre-determined point in the tossup.
  • Unlike other national tournaments, we will NOT assess a five-point penalty for interrupting the moderator during the tossup with an incorrect answer.

The Missouri Academic Coaches Association (MACA) is pleased to announce that it will be hosting this year's JV State tournament on March 12th at Helias High School. This tournament is open to ALL freshmen and sophomore players (NO juniors or seniors).

Format:
Games will consist of 20 tossups worth ten points each, followed by three-part rebounding bonuses worth up to thirty points. Tossups will not include powers or negs. The questions will be provided by Olympia Academic Competition Questions.

This is an honorary ranking system and will not count as one of a team's 14 events. Rules and qualifications are subject to change at the discretion of Regional Radio.

Round 1--toss-ups (10pts each); Round 2--lightning round; Round 3--toss-ups with five 3-part bonuses (all questions 10 pts each); Round 4--team worksheet (20 questions at 10 pts each); Round 5--remaining toss-ups from Round 3 at 20 pts each

As we did last year, first-year sophomore (may not have played at all during freshman year) players may fill out a freshman team that is short of four players. No team shall be a majority of sophomores.

KRES Scholars Cup

After a successful first year, Regional Radio (KWIX, KRES, KIRK and KTCM) is happy to announce the return of the KRES Scholars Cup, a ranking system that will recognize the top scholar bowl teams in our area for their performance over the course of the season. High schools in the following counties are eligible to pursue the Scholars Cup: Adair, Audrain, Boone, Callaway, Chariton, Clark, Cooper, Howard, Knox, Lewis, Linn, Macon, Marion, Monroe, Montgomery, Pike, Putnam, Ralls, Randolph, Saline, Schuyler, Scotland, Shelby and Sullivan.
