The Annual Conference of the Missouri Academic Coaches Association transpired on October 7 at the offices of the Missouri High School Activities Association in Columbia. Outgoing President Dr. Al Nicolai presided, and in the opening session introduced MSHSAA Associate Executive Director Stacy Schroeder, who presented information on rules changes and other updates. Dr. Nicolai then introduced the breakout sessions for the morning, which included "What You Need to Know about Literature" (Nicholas Cato, Jackson HS, and Freeman Fouts, Cape Girardeau Central HS,) "What You Need to Know about Classical Music" (Nicholas White, West Nodaway HS,) "Using Question Writing for Improvement" (Jason Loy, Tuscumbia HS,) "How to Run a Successful Tournament (Jeffrey Hill, MOQBA,) and "What You Need to Know about Shakespeare" (Dr. Al Nicolai, Cape Central HS.)
The afternoon business meeting featured presentation of Coach of the Year awards to Nick Kinast of Thomas Jefferson Independent Day School in Class 1, Verlin Mangels of Saxony Lutheran in Class 2, Scott Allen of Hallsville in Class 3, and Kathleen Wells-Morgan from Hickman HS in Class 4. Election of new officers followed. Jason Loy continues as secretary for another year, and Nicholas White will again serve as treasurer. Scott Allen was elected to a two-year term as president. Alex Dzurick will serve as vice-president.
